Madonna 2nd adoption appeal and Malawian archaic law – Reside in Malawi for a maximum of 18 months.

The things that make the news sometimes should equally trigger anxiety over its news worthiness, and if at all it would make such attention were it to involve all commons. I wonder if a family friends from a neighboring country was involved in the adoption, the press would’ve given them the same kind of attention that drag the Malawian authorities into invoking some kind of archaic law to prevent the said adoption? Perhaps one should blame the press for over blowing issues, and creating unnecessary attention. For the fact that, our dear icon, Madonna has done this before, without any unfavorable stories ensuing her action; the second action should’ve been left unannounced. That way, one political person somewhere wouldn’t come bragging about how the adopter should stay for about 18 months before moving out with the adoptee.

Come to think of it, how many African leaders or authorities genuinely care about the destitute? Or visit the slums or pockets of places where the have not, say not stay? Do they even care? Why is someone in authority somewhere in Malawi trying to make news with some archaic law s/he probably studied those days when most of them that have denied many underprivileged Africans basic necessities of life, were barely push with largesse to go to school. I put it to any of those quoting those laws to challenge Madonna by pick just 3 of these helpless kids? One! Two!! Three!!! In fact, you’ll be amazed at the speed with which those jealous authorities will vacate the scene where they are joining issues with a humanist and a Good Samaritan like Madonna.

Far from saying African customs/traditions/laws should not be respected, no. I honestly would be the last advocate of insubordination. However, what is very common in the continent -Africa is the circumvention of laws. Really truly, when the law does not favor those in authority, in quick succession they bend it to suit their selfish ends. I’ll beat my chest to say if the second adoptee was related to any of those presiding over the case, with quick dispatch they would clear Madonna to travel with the little child. So for this reverse case, it will take God’s grace for it to happen quickly. Well, those are our leaders for you.

But if we must make a better world, which would not segregate against anything, be it race, custom, religion, and class, then we must all lend our voices to controversies like the one in Madonna’s second adoption. And for my dear icon, please be a true mother to your adopted children. For giving love and parental care to someone whose world would have been misery of numbness, lack, pain, trauma and agony; only God knows what await you at the other side of benevolence.

It’s up to you my dear Bloggers; your say/comments on the issue are welcome!
